Private Mold Power Bank & ODM Guide
A practical guide to private-mold and ODM power bank development, covering route selection, DFM, prototypes, tooling, validation, pilot build and mass-production transfer.
Choose the development depth before choosing the tooling path.
Start from the product gap, identify what truly must change, and only move into new tooling when a mature platform cannot satisfy the required structure, electronics or user experience.
Choose Your Power Bank Development Route
Use the lightest route that solves the brief. ZEROSET currently works with four practical development paths:
1 · Existing PlatformBranding, CMF, packaging · from 1,000 pcs/model 2 · Internal Modification
PCB, cable, screen, interface · from 2,000 pcs/model 3 · Upgrade / Second Source
Match the released SKU and define approved improvements 4 · New Private Mold
New structure / mechanism / UX · from 3,000 pcs/design
Standard color: from 500 pcs/color. Mature-platform samples are typically 7–10 days and mature production about 30 days.

2 · Product Upgrade

3 · Full Private Mold

Private Mold Decision Gates
Use the lightest development route that can meet the product requirement. Move to full private mold only when the architecture or user experience genuinely needs new tooling.
Use the guide to decide the route before opening a development project. A full private mold is usually justified only when a mature platform cannot deliver the required structure, mechanism, interface layout or user experience.
01Use a Mature Platform
When the required form factor, power and interfaces already exist and the main changes are branding, CMF or packaging.
02Use Platform ODM
When selected electronics, cable routing, interfaces or housing details need controlled modification.
03Escalate to Private Mold
When the enclosure, mechanism, internal layout, interface positions or user experience must be materially different.
04Start Feasibility Review
Once the route is clear, move to concept, engineering scope, prototype and tooling review on the Custom Development page.

Private Mold Power Bank FAQ
When should a brand choose a full private mold?
Choose it when the enclosure, mechanism, electronics, interfaces or user experience must be materially different from existing platforms.
What should be frozen before tooling?
Freeze ID/CMF, dimensions, structure, cell/PACK, PCB, ports/cables, power targets and validation criteria before DFM and tooling release.
Can an existing PCB or battery platform be reused?
Often yes, if the new enclosure still meets connector position, clearance, cable routing, thermal and assembly requirements.
What should I send ZEROSET for feasibility review?
Send target market, capacity, power, ports/cables, dimensions, CMF, volume, timing and any reference product, sketch or 3D file. Send project brief →
Additional Private Mold & ODM FAQ
What is the difference between platform ODM and a completely new private mold?
Platform ODM starts from an existing architecture and changes selected structure, electronics, cables, interfaces or CMF. A new private mold is used when the industrial design or mechanical architecture must be materially new.
How should a brand decide whether a platform modification is enough?
List the commercial differences the product must create. If those differences can be achieved with CMF, cable, interface, PCB, battery or selected structural changes, platform ODM may be enough without creating a full new architecture.
What should DFM review cover before tooling?
DFM should review parting lines, wall thickness, fasteners, assembly sequence, connector placement, cable routing, battery and PCB clearance, tolerances, heat paths and the ability to manufacture the design consistently.
How are prototypes used before tooling release?
Prototypes are used to check size, ergonomics, internal layout, interfaces, mechanical fit and key functions. The prototype stage should close major architecture risks before expensive tooling decisions are locked.
What should be frozen before pilot production?
Freeze the approved design, BOM, battery and PCB configuration, firmware where applicable, cables and ports, materials, CMF, artwork, packaging, test criteria and accepted deviations.
Can a private-mold project use an existing battery or charging platform?
Yes, when the existing platform fits the required power, thermal, mechanical and compliance targets. Reusing proven electronics can reduce risk, but compatibility still needs engineering validation in the new enclosure.
