Power Bank NPI & Pilot Build Checklist
A release-gate checklist for power bank NPI and pilot builds, covering frozen specifications, BOM readiness, tooling, assembly work instructions, test coverage, defect closure and production transfer.
The pilot build is where the approved design meets the real production process.
Use NPI to verify materials, assembly sequence, tooling, test coverage, traceability and defect closure before the project moves into routine mass production.
NPI & Pilot Build — 4 Practical Checks
Keep every pilot lot tied to the exact released revision. Record the production evidence, issue status and final decision for each check.

01 · Released Baseline & MaterialsBest for: confirming the pilot lot is building the intended revision.
Model / SKU / pilot lot: ___
BOM / PCBA / firmware: ___
Cell / PACK lot: ___
Cable / connector / housing state: ___
Artwork / packaging revision: ___
Approved alternates used? ___
Decision: Ready / Recheck / Hold
Best for: proving the line can reproduce the released design.
Mold / tooling revision: ___
Assembly / programming fixture: ___
Functional-test equipment: ___
Released work instruction: ___
Critical torque / adhesive / curing step: ___
Calibration / poka-yoke status: ___
Decision: Ready / Correct / Hold
Best for: exposing yield, defect and process instability before scale-up.
Units built / FPY: ___
Rework / scrap / hold: ___
Top defect modes: ___
Charging / PD-PPS / functional result: ___
Thermal / aging / mechanism result: ___
Traceability / label / pack result: ___
Decision: Pass / Repeat Pilot / Hold
Best for: deciding whether the project can move into mass production.
Open critical issue: ___
Root cause / containment: ___
Corrective action / owner: ___
Verification evidence: ___
Released BOM / WI / QC plan updated? ___
Capacity / line readiness confirmed? ___
Release: Approved / Conditional / Hold
Rule: pilot-build evidence only applies to the exact materials, tooling, firmware, process and inspection state that was tested. Relevant changes require impact review before scale-up.
Release Decision & Next Step
ApprovedBaseline, process and pilot evidence support repeatable production.
ConditionalLimited open items have an owner, deadline and controlled closure plan.
Repeat PilotA process correction or relevant product change must be verified in another controlled build.
HoldDo not scale until critical product, process or traceability risk is closed.
Golden Sample → · Reliability Validation → · Production QC → · Quality & Compliance → · Factory Evidence →
Scale-up rule: the approved pilot lot must match the released product state. If the product architecture, housing or key components change, return to Custom Development and re-establish the validation baseline.Power Bank NPI & Pilot Build FAQ
What is the purpose of a power bank NPI pilot build?
The pilot build proves that the released design, materials, tooling, work instructions and inspection plan can produce the approved product repeatedly before full mass production.
What should be frozen before a pilot build starts?
Freeze the product revision, BOM, battery and PCB configuration, firmware where applicable, mechanical files, CMF, labels, packaging and the planned process controls.
What should first-piece approval confirm during NPI?
Confirm the correct model and revision, materials, setup, assembly, firmware, key dimensions, charging function, appearance and any special process requirement before continuing the lot.
Why should pilot-build issues be classified by design, material or process?
The classification helps identify the correct owner and corrective action. A design issue requires a different response from a supplier-material issue or an assembly-process issue.
What production evidence should be collected during NPI?
Collect line records, first-piece approval, inspection results, defect data, rework records, test results, traceability and evidence of issue closure for the pilot lot.
How should work instructions be reviewed during a pilot build?
Verify that operators can follow the released sequence, critical controls are clear and the instructions match the actual tooling, materials, firmware and inspection points.
What should happen if the pilot build reveals repeated defects?
Stop scale-up, contain the affected units, identify root cause, correct the design or process, update released documents and repeat the relevant pilot verification.
Can a pilot build be approved with open issues?
Only limited noncritical items with defined containment, owner and closure date should remain open. Critical safety, compliance, function or repeatability issues should be closed first.
How does NPI connect to quality control after launch?
NPI defines the stable process, inspection points and traceability baseline that IQC, IPQC and production QC continue to use during mass production.
When is the project ready to scale from pilot to mass production?
Scale when the released design is stable, required validation is complete, the pilot lot demonstrates repeatability, process controls are effective and critical open issues are closed.
Preparing a Pilot Build?
Freeze the specification, BOM, golden sample and test plan first, then use the pilot run to close manufacturing risks before mass-production release.
